Beacon Fell Country Park
Beacon Fell Country Park is one of the oldest in the country, being designated in 1970. It is 16 kilometres’ (10 miles’) drive from Preston and is signposted from Broughton and Longridge. Founded in 1147, Sawley Abbey - or Salley, as it was known in the Middle Ages - was neither large nor wealthy, but several of the monks serving there were very distinguished scholars.
